Interesting 1950s ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP of N.W. LONDON, Middlesex + Hertfordshire 1" to 1 Mile
Sheet no 160 LONDON N.W.
Published in 1958 .
The map includes Central and North West London out to Slough beyond Heathrow.
And on this map you can see that Heathrow was built on the site of an ancient temple !
To the North it goes as far as Harpenden, including Welwyn, St Albans and Watford.
To the West it goes to Chesham and Berkhamsted and to the East to Hertford.
The map has lots of fascinating details - long gone farms, aerodromes, schools, hospitals, golf courses and woods.. and an early red M1.
The M1 was opened in 1959.
The scale is 1 inch to 1 mile and it is on paper.
I have several of these maps :
Map 1 - On Paper. Roads revised to 1960. Good condition inside and out. Map 2 - Same map - on paper - front cover a bit more worn than Map 1. Map 3 - Revised to 1955 - on paper - Good condition inside and out. Map 4 - Published 1963 - - cloth backed -Good condition inside and out. Map 5 - Same as Map 4 except on paper - Good condition inside - outside a little grubby.
