..Bizarre... doesn't even begin to describe these fantastic old paper masks.
The smaller masks are aprox (width by height) 18 x 9 cm
The larger ones are aprox 18 x 20 cm - they would have covered more of the face.
They originally had rubber bands at the side to put over the ears - but these dried up and broke years ago, some of the masks have remnants of the bands at the edges.
Needless to say - these are not for wearing, they are delicate, they are for putting on a shelf and smiling at every time you walk past.
Most of them do not have eyes - these came in sealed boxes and there were no eyes in the boxes either !
I found them right at the back of a high shelf in an old wholesalers warehouse I cleared.
One of the boxes had a label that was exactly the same as boxes of other things I found that had MADE IN JAPAN marked on them.
