An enamel medal with the words DEFENCE OF MALTA FOR GALLANTRY BESTOWED BY KING GEORGE 1942 On the back is impressed MADE IN ENGLAND In 1942, King George VI awarded the entire country of Malta the George Cross  for
"acts of the greatest heroism and of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme danger’ 
"in recognition of their continuing and heroic struggle against repeated and continuous attacks during World War 2."

During World War II, Malta, a British colony, was relentlessly bombed by Axis forces because of its strategic location in the Mediterranean. Despite severe shortages and constant attacks, the Maltese people showed extraordinary courage and resilience, helping the Allies maintain control of vital supply routes. I found a bundle of these enamel medals in an old warehouse in Malta that I cleared 20 years ago.
