In the 1930s in France the usual age for the Roman Catholic First Communion
was 11 or 12. This was a solemn event with much preparation having been done by the child before hand, there were certificates and of course photos to go to all the relatives.
All these photos were taken in a studio decorated with painted scenes of gardens.
Girls at this time wore long veils and white dresses often with puffed sleeves, high necklines, and full skirts, symbolizing purity, innocence and connection to the divine.
And boys wore their Sunday Best and fancy white arms bands
Please have a look at all 5 photos for close ups.
