1930s NU-CURL FOUNDATION ROLLS
These were manufactured by JOHN W. W. HOLDEN U.S.A PATENT NO. 2.152.737 - dating to 1937.
The lovely 1930s packaging claims

There are illustrated instructions too..so no excuse not to create the perfect Gibson Roll Hairstyle
The foundation roll is made of a flexible nylon mesh, which, if you need something firmer you can easily pad out with cotton wool or something similar.
The roll measures approx 7.5" / 19cm in length and 3/4" / 2cm in width.
You can shorten it by tucking the ends inside.
It comes with 2 small hair grips, holding it onto the card, which can then be used to hold the roll in your hair.
I only have a few of these and all the cards have the odd grubby mark from long years in storage in the old warehouse where I found them - see close up photos.
One is quite damaged - so cheaper - see last photo.
