Box of 36 yds of Vintage British Black or White Thick 1" Cotton Fringing

I found a few boxes of these in a haberdashery warehouse I cleared years ago.
There's a continuous length of 36 yds of thick cotton fringing in each box, 3 boxes of black, 1 of white.
There seems to be 4 rows of fringing sewn onto the top band,.so its thick, almost fluffy.
No idea what it would have originally been used for !
